Area Police
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A high-ranking representative said the incident made him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
